The “chiacchere”: traditional Carnival national sweet.

This is in the most funny period of the year, the Carnival, with its mask, its costumes and its nursery rhymes! As in any occasion to celebrate this period, the desserts are the real protagonists. At Carnival, the choice is really wide, the typical delicious of this period, in fact, have so many different forms and can be fried, baked, stuffed, but all are able to get you drool!

Forni David want to tell the origin of the most distinctive sweet, showing the very ancient origin: the “chiacchere”. They have, in fact, several versions and names at all, depending on the region they belong, they are called in different ways: some examples are: bugie, strufoli, frappole, grostoli, etc. The origin of this typical Italian sweet, date back to Ancient Rome. At the time, they were called frictilia and were prepared by the Romans to celebrate the Saturnalia, wich corresponds to the Carnival festivities. The chiacchere were ditributed to entire crowd that poured through the streets and due to the simplicity of preparation, were cooked in large quantities, satisfying the taste buds of all.

The goodness of “chiacchere” is likely to have been survived to the present day, to continue to sweeten the palate of children and adults.
